All Children are welcome to go on the Predation trip or Shark Cage Diving / Boat-based Great White Shark Watching trip. As long as they are accompanied by Adults. No children 12 and under are allowed in the Cage.

 

Where is Simon's Town, Cape Town?

Simon's Town is a 45-minute drive from Cape Town City Centre 

Season

The Great White Shark season in Simon's Town, Cape Town starts around 15 January to 15 September every year. Peak Season is from around 16 May to 14 September. The season is based on Seasonal Activity and may change according to Great White Shark Behaviour.

Professional Guide

The friendly staff on the boat are all qualified guides and the boat is Skippered by a very experienced qualified Skipper and a paramedic on board. 

Photo Friendly

This is an understatement, to say the least. Imagine getting a Great White Shark looking at you with its gaping jaws open in front of you or a Great White Shark Breaching. Definitely bring a Camera and Go Pro. Drones are allowed subject to prior arrangements. 

Weather Dependant

All trips are weather dependent and can be CANCELLED at a moments notice. Your safety comes 1st and foremost.

Wheel Chair Friendly

All are welcome to join this AMAZING experience. Prior arrangements must be made if you would like to go inside the cage. This is subject to certain conditions as to the severity of the disability and if the Guest can be controlled SAFELY inside the cage. Otherwise, the view from the boat is JUST as amazing to see Great White Sharks. 

What time must I arrive for my trip?

You will receive an SMS the day before to inform you exactly what time you need to be at the Shark Office for your Great White Shark Experience. Please ensure you arrive 1 hour before your Shark Experience Departs.

TRIP ITINERARY

See below details of what you can expect on the day of your Predation Trip or Shark Cage Diving/Boat Based Shark Watching Experience. 

Morning Predation / Breaching Trip or Afternoon Shark Cage Diving/Boat Based Shark Watching Trip

Please arrive at the Office 1 hour before your Great White Shark Experience Departs

Payment

You can pay by Cash or Credit Card on Arrival. We do require your Credit Card details to secure your booking. Your, Credit Card, will not be debited. It is only for security purposes in the event of 'NO SHOWS'.

Orientation

After you arrive you will have a brief orientation of what you can expect on your Trip  

Breakfast / Lunch

You will be served with a small Continental Breakfast or light Lunch while orientation takes place. 

Make your Way to the Harbor

You will be escorted to the Harbor where you will board the Shark Boat for launching. 

15 - 20 minute Boat ride to Seal Island in False Bay

There is a 15 - 20-minute boat ride to the island before the boat anchors to lower the Shark Cage.

Anchor the Boat

The Skipper will anchor the boat and the friendly staff will lower the Cage into the sea while guests get into their wetsuit (Advisable to wear your costume underneath your clothes before getting on the boat) that is provided before getting inside the Cage. For those that do not want to get in the cage, the viewing is just as good from the boat

Predation (Breaching) / Cage Diving / Great White Shark Watching Trip

  1. Predation Experience - As the Sun rises and the visibility for the Cape Fur Seal's is poor below the sea, you will be instructed to watch out for any Cape Fur Seal pods traveling to or from the Island to see a potential Predation's(Hunting/ breaching) on the Pod of Seals. This will be done for about an hour as the light improves for the seal's, predations slow down. 
  2. Breaching with Decoy - After the Predations slow down, a Seal Decoy will be towed behind the boat about 30 yards behind the Shark Boat to encourage the Great White to Breach on the Decoy. This will continue for about another hour.
  3. Shark Cage Diving / Boat Based Shark Watching - The boat will anchor and the Shark Cage will be lowered into the sea and floats on the surface. A group of 5 divers will be lowered into the cage where they can scuba(prior arrangement) or snorkel to see the Great White Sharks underwater or you can view them just as well on the boat as Great Whites are surface feeders.

Cage Diving / Great White Shark Watching Trip

Trip departs in the Afternoon generally. The boat will travel to Seal Island where the boat will anchor to lower the Shark Cage to view the Shark from below the surface or from the boat. The trip is about 3 - 4 hours long

Return to the Harbor

After you have had an AMAZING experience with Great White Sharks, you will return to the Harbour and to the office, where you can freshen up and watch a video of your Trip, which you can purchase, while having some tea, coffee, and some snacks to warm you up before you make your way to the next adventure in South Africa.
